Cool

Hi all,

Has anyone else noticed the current TV ad for recruiting new teachers? Specifically the part when a girl is talking (I think), and the Playstation symbols appear in quick succesion in her mouth!?!?

I thought I was imagining it but I have seen it a few times now and at the cinema. Spooky stuff eh!?

Good marketing, as always from Sony!

When it does it says "Can you speak another language?" - getting at Playstations etc. being a language of the youth.

Gezackly..."computing" is a language and most youngsters can "speak" it better than their adult counterparts.

Hence when a young child is saying "Can you speak another language" with the PlayStation symbols coming up, it's asking if you can comunicate with youngsters at their level and not run shrieking from the room at the first mention of "techy stuff"...

It's not that spooky as the symbols are quite plain....

yeah,

the thing that gets me is how they have changed that old saying, they say 'Those who can teach' which is utter bollox the saying *always* has been, 'Those who can do, those who can't teach'.

Who are they trying to kid???

hehehe - I noticed that. Opening Windows is not an issue, it's getting the thing to STAY open without erroring out that's the biggest challenge.

Hey, GaryK, I'd love to see you in front of a few comprehensive school classes.
Not to mention come home and spend about 3 hours marking their work, then at least another hour preparing for the next day's work.
And all that, after 4 year's training,(6, if you count 2 years in the sixth form), on a starting salary of about £16k
Believe me, matey, when I say: "those who CAN, teach!"

This will be the ad campaign that's cost £16,000,000 and has filled 140 teaching posts.

The Playstation symbols will be registered trademarks, surely? Some companies will take you to court if you so much as use their particular shade of a colour - it must be a Sony advert?

Red face

Agree with Alcazar, my missus has just finished her first year, and lets just say I have defo changed my opinion of teachers now.

Good job and often rewarding, but bloody hell they do some work. She is downstairs now doing lesson plans whilst I play on here. Money isnt that great either relatively speaking.

Question

In all honesty. Who in their right mind would want to be a teacher. I mean secondary school teacher.

When they're at primary school its relatively easy. Teach em basic everything and send em on their way. At College or Sixth Form age, they really WANT to be there. Its for a career, something theyd like to achieve to get them to a job or to Uni.

But secondary schools. Hard job. Fighting, Swearing, Abuse from the kids. Plus all the other crap about marking, lesson plans etc.

I couldnt and wouldnt want to.

Primary are worse than secondary these days - culture shift, kids knowing more earlier on etc.

Some absolute lunatics in primary now

Dream!
How did I guess! Were you at the meet last night!? Any good?
Jees it's hurting this morning
Both my parents are/were teachers and I was astounded at the time they spent working, in the EVENING. They were always preparing or marking etc. If we actually paid teachers well, like in Germany or France etc, then perhaps we would get people to respect the job. A sad situation.

Alternatively give teachers more power to discipline in the classroom...

Unhappy

Too right Mice Elf old boy. If a teacher breathes on some ****** in the classroom, they may be sued. Utterly ridiculous. Need some decent discipline like 20 - 30 years ago when kids would not DARE to hassle the teacher.

Dream - I know what u mean mate!!!
