Exactly why are you (women generally ) at more risk from ectopic pregnancy with a coil fitted? or rather, are you more likely to have an ectopic pregnancy than a woman who takes no contraception?

if there is more risk, does the ovum 'sense' the coil and say, I'm happy here thanks or does it travel to the uterus, see the coil and with a "**** this, I'm off!" and travel back to a tube?

this is a serious question, btw so please confine responses/opinions as such.

Not a doc, but the coil blocks off the uterus and not the tubes. So there is more propotionately greater risk of an ectopic than normal pregancy with the coil in place
