MY03 and ABS Fuse

With all the cold weather thought I'd mention this.
On all the driving in snow threads its a common thing to pull the abs fuse to allow the front wheels to lock and dig into the snow and push up the snow in front of the wheels.
The MY03 is to be equipped with EBD which controls the brake pressure the brakes get electronically instead of having the old regulating valve system. If you pull the ABS fuse it also disables the EBD and rear brakes will get the same pressure as the fronts, this means "hanbrake turn" style braking on snow whenever you brake as the rears will lock first.

Let's nip this one in the bud before it becomes one of those perpetuated mis-quotes. If the ABS fails (for whatever reason inc the fuse blowing or a sensor failing) the car will NOT have too much brake bias. It will probably be possible to lock the rear wheels but this will only happen after the fronts have locked, just like most cars not fitted with ABS. Could you see a manufacturer being able to sell a car that is dangerous if a safety feature like ABS fails?

I am only talking about snow not any other surface, as you say in 99% of situations your only going to notice a warning light.
A couple of guys from Sweden on the Alfa bbs bought this up, they speak from experience, it is common in Sweden to disable ABS in snow also. In the majority of cases on snow with ebd disabled they found the rears locked with the fronts but with the fronts digging in anything other than totaly straight bought the back end round. In some cases the rears locked first.
They tried it with a few EBD cars but no Scoobs.
