I used Castrol power steering fluid, dextrol (or is it dextron or something?) 3, when I had a leak. Reccommended by a specialist.

Agree with Justin.

Go into halfords, look for Castrol Dextron III. It will say Powersterring and I think clutch fluid on it. Tis what I use (lots of unfortunatley )

Do you know how much I need to get to fill the system ?
Also what is the best way to replace all the fluid in the system ?
Cheers, Mike.

Mike
I've become an expert on this with all the problems i've had.
what you need is dextron 3 power steering fluid(automatic gearbox fluid )as mentioned above. The system holds 0.7 litre's .
the best way to drain the system is to take off the return pipe (the rubber one) jack the car off the floor and turn the steering from full lock to full lock .p.s put a plastic bag over the rubber pipe to stop the mess
do the same when refilling the system but this time have the car running this will get the air out of the system.
hope this helps

Nick,

What problems have you had - just trying to work out where my 94 WRX is spitting fluid out from - looks like the reservoir - any ideas?

Thumbs up

neil,
my is 95 wrx and the common place were it leaks is the o ring on the bottom of the reservoir .
To change them drain out the fluid in the reservoir with a syringe type thing , undo the three bolts on top and replace the small o ring on the reservoir and replace the bigger o ring on top of the pump .

Red face

Nick,

Hmm... have replaced the O ring on the bottom of the reservoir, but a bigger one on top of the pump? Where does this go - around the top of the hole that the reservoir goes into, I guess? Didn't see one of those when I took it apart!!

Will have to go and have another look.

Thanks for the info

Neil.
