Hi,

I have a 1994 WRX, I would like to know the correct oil to be used in the gearbox.

I stripped 3rd gear and the 3rd gear syncro, which I think was a result of the incorrect gear oil. I used Esso 80w -90 in my gearbox which I think caused the problem.

Someone told me that I should use a thicker oil. Can you advise the advantages and disadvantages of the thick and thin oil.

Also, do you think i should mix two different oils?

I'm living in St. Vincent in the caribbean if you would like to know the weather condition.

I got a used gearbox that i'm about to install, but I would liketo know what sort of oil i should use.

I would appreciate if you can also indicate what cuased the problem and how I can avoid it.

Can't really help with most of your questions but I run Silkolene SYN5 75w/90 in mine.

I heard from another thread that he used auto trans fluid. A mechanic friend of mine agrees but I'm too paranoid to try it.
