Andy theres a few of these on the go, mine being with a 100mm boresize in a type ra, use for trackdays and stuff for a bit of fun and development, one in tim_K car that will hopefuly run the next r/road day.
Valve set up is custom valves (one piece) with a stelite seat on the ex. Spring and cap set up will deal with high lift cams and top hat shim.

Am I being stupid, but can you not just bore 5mm out and shove the piston in??

92 + 5 = 97mm??

Or is there a coating / hardening in there that doesnt allow that oversize...

What are the liners out of, mail me if you prefer...

Presume they are classed as a dry liner.. (I'm Not much good with engines )

The block has a liner in the first place to do 2 things:

1. provide a hard surface to take a hone, and have the piston run in it with low friction

2. increase bore wall strength.

The other way is to use a solid linerless block, and coat the bore with something like chrome, or on more modern engines Nikasil. The honing process makes things nice and round, smooth, but leaves a slight roughness to the finish which hold the oil on the bores.

In increaseing the bore size, you can remove old liner, bore out the original hole for the liner, and fit a physically larger liner.

Just wondered why as I didnt think the std block used a liner, what are these liners out of??

The std block has a liner cast into it from the factory, there is x amount alloy wall thickness and y amount of cast liner wall thickness to bore out to 97mm will not leave anough cast iron wall thickness, so without use of a black and decker the block is bored to take a heavey duty top flanged diesel liner and block is then honed to a 16-20 ra surface finish and blocks surfaced to the required deck height. They could be nikasiled for extra durability
but at about £80 per cyl i would say for fast road/trackday use its a bit excessive. If you were to chrome plate the top section of the bore which was a way of reducing bore wear of years gone by that usaly resulted in top ring land wear it is a must that you do not run a chrome top ring, which most are or you will have instant seizure. I use a radioused top ring which means a faster beding in process and a better seal.

Andy no figures yet still finishing things up but when i do i shall let you know, to get the real power im aiming for the cams have to be on blanks, the first engine in tims car is seriuos but is running the best profile i can squeeze on to the stock cams, then there will be a 2l that will run the same cams and be tested and devoloped and hopefully become an engine package that will produce a reliable min of 400bhp with a wide band of power delivery at a sencible price then that will come out just before the summer so i can have some fun with my proper engine.

I know someone who does a great job in blackmarket kidneys- that must be worth a oner at least - and they use a whole bottle of Jack Daniels. Although not sure if the JD is an incentive or the anaesthetic
