I live in California, where there is no STi WRX, and I'm wondering if it is possible to swap the engine out of a non-turbo imprezza here and put in the STi engine from the JDM or UK version?

Has anyone seen this done before? Any links or info as to WHY this would be a good or bad idea would be awesome.

Woudl it be as simple as dropping the engine in, or is there a whole lot more involved....

Thanks in advance.

One obvious thing you will need is the ECU that goes with the STI engine etc!!!

I ran an STi swap (Ottawa Canada) for almost a year before the car was crashed. Now I'm planning out my second swap with a V7. It's quite possible and there are a number of shops who have done it.

I wrote an article on it as well. http://www.lachutesubaru.com/ Go to the Technical Info section.
