My 94 WRX gearbox needs replacing and I'm after a box with better ratios. The standard box would only allow 53 mph in second, so I'm after a box that will allow me to hit 60 in second. My original box is not an RA box as it redlines in 5th at 150 mph. I have thought about an STI box but in a WRX would it reach 60 in 2nd due to the lower rev limit of the WRX engine.
I don't realy want a UK box either as I think they will be too high geared and kill the acceleration. I don't mind changing the difs at the same time to get the right set up. I would buy a box from Lateral Performance but at the moment it is out of my price range.

Cheers Colin.

I agree with Stevie!

Trout

PS Or try the Lateral Performance synchro set - cheaper than an Sti box and much, much stronger!

I'm thinking about getting one right after christmas Trout. Hopefully the Aussie dollar would fall a bit by then and we can get the kit for 1.6k.

Yes I know you get what you pay for, and if Mark has put his name to the Aussie gear set it must be bl**dy good. It just means that I would have to sell my second car + put some money towards it just for the gear set !

The RA box, can you hit 60 in 2nd, and what is max speed ? I thought it was 112 mph, which means if you can hit 60 in 2nd the last 3 gear ratios are very close. I need a box with a sensible 5th gear ratio.

Colin.

I haven't been able to check my max speed yet as its still limited and I haven't had the time to put the device in. I'll tell you next week.

IIRC the 112mph is the electronic speed limiter only. Its another gentlemens agreement thing like the maximum horsepower.

Type R (as used in the RA gearbox) will pass 60 in second.

It does rev high though
