Hoping there might be someone that can let me know what the strange ticking noise that has just developed on my car is.

I have a 99 Scooby with 55,000 miles. It has been regularly serviced every 7.5k.


The noise is most apparent when it is cold and at low revs - usually when the engine is labouring slightly due to early change up. Or when between 6k and 7k in second and third (haven't been upto the red in 4th for a while so not sure about this gear). Haven't noticed it at other rev ranges but that could be because it is not audible over the noise from the backbox.

Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks
