I'm rapidly approaching the first service. How much is it going to cost and where is recommended to have it done in the Herts/Beds/Bucks/N.London area?

Wouldn't the dealer you bought the car from be doing the first service for free? Mine did...

I think that the labour is free but the oil & filter isn't in the UK.

Unless your car is an import, I'd use whoever your nearest Subaru dealer is - all the're doing is changing the oil.
