More thefts, this time Lotuses
5 Lotuses nicked from London Lotus Centre on Saturday night : if anyone is offered a cheap Lotus then a few of the people listed below would be very interested :

My car was taken along with five others from London Lotus in St Albans early this am, apparently a professional job.
I'm hoping that whoever swiped it won't get too far as the misfire detection has been shutting down the engine.
if anyone sees a red 111 (W2 Kev) limping along, pls let plod know
Kevin

How did this happen!? Does the LLC not keep keys in a safe or similar? Could be another reason not to use them! Suggest you make them claim on their insurance if a claim becomes necessary, rather than mess up your record.
Good luck.

Jeez Kev, that's awful :-(
Let's hope they give up with the misfire and leave it at the side of the road somewhere!
I know SimonF has a story of LLC security.
Cheers,
Liam.

'dya think all the others had problems LLC couldn't solve then? Desperate measures!
Chassis # would be more use than reg no for tracing.

Sorry to hear about your car Kev, I think if 5 have been nicked, they're likely to have had a transporter - probably out of the country by now.
I though there would be little market for such a car, being such a low volume motor and all, most people who'd buy a Lotus are going to check it out thoroughly before buying. This is only the second time I've heard of a 'Liz being nicked.
As for the dealer - very suspect if you ask me, don't they have security/alarms/barriers etc..?

Really sorry to hear that K. Do you know how they managed to get the cars out? driven or transporter (i realise unless there are witnesses you may not know but there may have been other cars that they attempted to steal but didn't/couldn't).
Hope you get it back soon.

Sorry to hear about your car Kev it was a dyno champ in its class. Chassis number would be usefull and it seems like the rest of us no longer have a car the crooks aren't interested in anymore.

Sorry to hear the news Kev, hope it gets sorted OK.
Only reading on the web at the weekend how car thieves aim to get the keys (as happened to Marcus) these days because of the effectiviness of immobilisers/Tracker etc. If keys were stolen imho you should be able to get redress from LLC because they failed in their duty of care.

Sorry to read about your loss
A similar thing happened to a local Merc dealer a few weeks ago, they took 12 cars but abandoned one as it had a tracker fitted.

Thanks guys for all the sympathy.
Not had an update from LLC as to status!!
But from what I could gather they were ram raided, broke in, got all the keys out (handily labelled) and took 6 cars. Alarms didn't go off so nobody knew till this am - apppently knew exactly what they were doing (joke in there somewhere)
one was abandoned on the M25 when the gearbox blew.
Plod and the LLC insurance people are now on it.

Kevin,
Did it have a hard top?
I thought I knew all the elise owners near me (Wakefield)but have seen a sparkling red elise with hardtop from a distance with the bonnet up on an 'unusual' 2nd hand garage forecourt on Sun AM. This place is NOT an elise sort of place for sure. I was 50 yards away and couldn't see the spoiler, etc. I think I saw the same car again today about 10 miles away. It may be all coincidence but I've only ever seen 2 red elises and they were owners on here from the south. The hard top did catch my though...
Any thoughts you other Wakefield 'ish elise owners????

Was at LLC this afternoon. Security gate was being welded up. Key box had been smashed. Am supprised none of the new cars on the forecourt had been taken though. They must have taken alot of time to do the job though as they have locking bollards to get into the forecourt, then a thick metal gate. My car was there last week, luckily they finished the job early could have been mine.
Sorry to hear of your loss. Hope they get the *******s

They used a customer car (non Lotus) to knock down one of the bollards. Carried out between 12.00 and 1am Sunday night. Car recovered on the M25 was an Esprit, and I think one of the others taken was a Z3. Luckily for me my Exige was in the workshop, and they did not go in there.
Hope all gets sorted properly.
Cheers

Oooo... If the Esprit was abandoned near the tunnels on the M25 around J26 Eastbound i think, I passed it at about 2.30am on Monday morning. Was gonna stop and see if the guy next to it talking on a mobile needed a hand as it looked like he had a wheel off/flat tyre... but I'd been driving back from Lancashire and was desperate to get home. No plods or anything around so am wondering if I'd almost helped the bar stewards in question!!!
Hope you get it all sorted

Spencer : make sure you inform the police of what you saw : it is quite possible that they will be able to trace the guys mobile phone call and find out his number and that of who he was calling, especially if you can be reasonably accurate about the time and place the call was made

Spencer, John T's right thats how the Hamiltons we're cleared in court (rape trial), every single call is registered and record held by phones service provider for just this reason, definitely call police or get Kev to with details!

Kev, very sorry to hear of your car's disappearance.
Strangely, Haydon's in Salisbury were also broken into some months ago (before they went under and were reborn) and the toerags were in the middle of removing vehicles from the workshop when they were disturbed and legged it, empty-handed.
As mentioned, Kev, give us the last four digits of your chassis number (if you know it), and some distinguishing features of your car. There are enough people on here, up and down the country for it to be spotted if still in the UK.
Hope you get a satisfactory result.
