Hi Folks

Just picked up my Uk spec MY00 this week ( woohoo! ) and whilst out for a "swift" drive yesterday it feels like it splutters from around 5k revs through to the redline when accelerating hard in all gears. If you apply the throttle with less Vigour ( smoother ) it feels fine.

The cars been serviced recently, has a ramair filter installed + prodrive exhaust ( P1 logo ) but hasnt had the ppp on it. I know its been run on crap supermarket petrol for the last tank so I switched to Optimax on this tank.

Not sure if this is car issue, im expecting too much here or Ive got a dodgy driving style with a heavy foot!

Any ideas?

Should I get the engine initialised now its running decent petrol
and could this be the problem...can i do this myself by disconnecting the battery?

Cheers
Rich

try and check when the plugs were last changed, my MY00 had the same prob, plug change sorted it, also maybe get the car on a select monitor to check the MAF...

To start with, yes just disconnect the battery overnight or something. The engine may be retarding hugely if it's been run on supermarket fuel & the ECU reset will clear that.
Then, keep an eye on stuff - particularly idling. If that starts behaving badly, the MAF may well have gone. Or better, find someone with DeltaDash (or invest yourself! ) & check everything out that way. If you can get hold of the DD, then don't do the reset - better to see the problem 'now' rather than remove it & then wonder what it was
If it's idling OK now, I think it's just the earlier dodgy fuel, meself...

Cheers for the input folks..much appreciated.

Just been for another drive at lunchtime and its idling fine ..no hunting or spluttering from a tickover. Noticed the problem is not in 1st and mainly does this in 2nd,3rd etc.

I wondered about the MAF as well as the panel filter is RAMAIR and therefore oil based. Subaru said this was an approved filter so they can fix it if the MAF's buggered.

I'll run this tank of petrol through and then disconnect the battery.... Do i disconnect both terminals and is there a specific way I need to drive it ( and timeframe ) after so the ECU resets OK?

Cheers
