Please don't take this an insult, or trying to start an arguement, but I am genuinely interested in how the RB5 Impreza differed from the standard UK turbo?

I ask because about 3 weeks ago at Santa Pod I beat the same standard RB5 in my standard Astra GTE 16v twice!

First run:

RB5 - 15.353@78.77
Astra GTE 16v - 14.923@93.45

Second run:

RB5 - 15.054@91.89
Astra GTE 16v - 14.994@92.38

I had a chat with the owner afterwards and he was very surprised to hear my car was standard. Well apart from K&N 57i kit and passenger seats removed(42kgs)the car is standard. My PB is 14.82.

Do you reckon this Subaru was not driven hard enough up the strip, becasue I was very surprised to beat it not once but twice?

Depends on how much abuse you give them ie dial up 6000 rpm and side step the clutch (can be costly though ). A standard RB5/MY99 UK turbo will do a quarter in 14.0-14.5 at abotu 95-100mph terminal speed. Sounds like a sensible onwer to me.

Cool

Not too sure on that one couldnt have been the prodrive one (240BHP), must have been standered but still quite suprising that you were able to beat it,

The RB5 was essential an MY99 turbo engine wise, it had a solid rear bulkhead (like the STI) and 17" which meant it handled slightly better but not use in a drag race (no twisties ). Every magazine quotes the figure for the RB5 WR Sport version ie the 240bhp one. They didnt all have 240bhp (most didnt) and only ones fitted with the option extra prodrive performnace pack had this. If the guy said it was a standard RB5 then it has 215bhp same as an MY99.

Hope that helps,

Chris
