Question

Sorry that this has been covered before (I'm lazy )

What are the recommendations re the 'thicker' oil for 61k uk car please ?

As I remember, dealers tend to use a 'thin' oil for whatever reason, I have seen some of the thicker oils quoted in a bid to supress the rattly lifter noise.

Thanks in advance

What you need is a tin of that "motor up" stuff you always see advertised on Sky

(tounge firmly in cheek)

Edited to say, sorry, I couldn't resist it

Thanks for that, its not really 'rattly' just the usual tapping from the lifters

I'll get it shimmed when I re-build the engine

Cheers for now.

Hi MD, Ive read a few of the 'SCARY' threads and general concensus was Castrol RS 10w60 or Motul 300 comp 10w40, Silkolene pro race... 0w 0r 5w are too thin, a succesful Rally prep company here in ireland (TTI) use RS 10w60 in all there rally cars which is good enuff for me

hope this helps...

Cheers
