Clutch has recently started slipping a little when driven hard.

Does anyone know how long I might be able to put off paying the £300 odd quid for a new one as I've just got back from holiday and am strapped for cash!

I am hoping to wait until the 75k service in a months time and have it done then.

I use the car every day mainly on motorways.

Can ayone advise?

 

If it's only slipping when you drive the car hard, don't drive it hard !!!

It could last for months, if you are sensible.

I got a whole 6 weeks out of my clutch from when it started slipping under boost. but did get a clutch fitted with 2 year guarantee for under £300

Where did you get that done, and how long was the guarantee?

 

Actually, how much should I expect to pay for the clutch replacement/rebuild at a dealer, all in including fitting and vat?

i unlike a lot of people who own impreza am not made of money. there fore i spent a lot of time on web sites such as this trying to find out what i should expect to pay for a clutch fitting, unfortunatley the responses i was getting from alleged owners were horrendous.
Trust me on this, dont think many people out there want you to have an easy ride i was advised of prices ranging from £500 to £800 depending on the flywheel because that more often than not will be warped/cracked (RUBISH)
Flywheels seldom crack or warp unless they are under constant high levels of abuse and i do mean constant......

I honestly payed under £300.00 for a genuine clutch fitted with guarantee to my Jap import wrx my94 By a proffesional team of engineers who specialise in Subarus and other high performance marks

I am not on commission but have had my clutch 3 months with no problems at all and for half the price others will advise you of.

As for rubbish, flyhweels do crack, very common on subarus, but not a big problem. Although the flywheel may not warp as such, the friction surface can become damaged, which can cause the clutch to judder taking up the drive. Unless the flywheel is like new, I would reccommend getting it re-surfaced ( surface grinding is apparently best ). If the car has been driven hard with the clutch slipping for any amount of time, then obviously the flywheel damage is likely to be worse.
It makes sense to do it right, that way it will last longer, and you wont have to fork out your money again so fast.
£800 is being very very greedy for a std clutch replacement though even with a machined flywheel.

At the end of the day tis your hard earned and your decision,

But a reputable dealer/garage who knows his stuff Will not try and stiff you for a flywheel, Am certain Subaru dealers wont tell you its common for flywheels to crack when you buy a car from them.
so theres got to be more to it when they and other people disclose they need skiming/replacing at clutch time, very strange

Everybody has there own experiance and great vatt of knowledge on certain subjects and this can only be a good thing??

I can only tell you of my experiance's A clutch fitted right first time for half the cost of most dealers,and saying that certain individuals who post on here,

just to add at the end of the day when you pull away from the lights or put your foot down to overtake slower and some times faster vehicles, sure both you and i would sell our soles to keep the bhp getting from the engine to the wheels.
