Tinted my lights after seeing another post on here. I need to apply some more laquer though as the lights arent shiney enough and look a little more matt than the top bit that isnt tinted.

K...whats the best way to remove the black tint around the reverse lamp section then? Maybe mask off to get a straight line then treat with turps/white spirit?? I need some more laquer on the tint though as im not happy with the level of shine that comes off them. Looks much better imo though. I officially have no orange bits on my car now which is good Thanks DH for the idea was well worth the money

R.B.5,

You can get the paint off with some decent thinners, just ve carful, i did mine with some wire wool, it does however make the reverse lights a bit dull... i would just keep at it with some thinners, or just leave it..!!

Look good..!!!

Looks good on the RB5 grey

I prefer the clear reverse light as well, mainly cos it looks more like an original tinted cluster rather than a sprayed one IMO. Still looks cool though, better than the tango look either way

Wink

The way i did it was to mask over the reversing lights and then cut round with a knife... You can then fold the excess into the recess of the lamps

Has anyone done this to a DBM. I am considering taking the plunge, but i'm not sure if it would suit this colour?

Mine is the DBM car in that thread with the tinted rears, looks excellent IMO - the pics don't do it justice compared to seeing it in the flesh.

I was unsure myself at first about whether to spend £250 on clear STi lights (still leaves the problem of no rear fog), tint red or tint dark. After taking the plunge I reckon I made the right choice, suits the DBM car really well and is way cheaper than STi lights

akshay67 :

Well on the left hand side light I put some nitromors on to take the paint and laquer off. Didn't think it was going to eat through the plastic too did I. So with that light I got most of the paint off with the deadly paint stripper. Because the light plastic was in such a mess I had to use some aircraft grade aluminium sandpaper which I came accross in my garage (as you do) and cut back the plastic using different grades then ended up with a shiney finish on the surface again, so that light was sorted

The second light I used a fibre pen to remove most of the laquer and paint then went over it harsly with some brasso and a cloth.

All I need do now is apply one last coat of tint to touch up where i cocked up and then a few more coats of laquer! Hope this helps!!!

What about tinting the bottom part of the lights red to match the top? I'm considering this or the black tint on my DGM MY99. Done red it would look similar to the phase 2 106 rear lights:

Anyone any good at Photoshoping the image above to all red?

Cheers
Neil.

lol thats too red dont you think! The best option would be to go for what we've already done as some say that when you tint the whole bottom bit of the light black it looks as if it has been done purposely. But by leaving the reverse lamps clear and untouched it looks almost standard if you arent looking close enough.

Thanks again for the cheap but effective mod idea Dan, i'm well happy with mine. I'll post some pics up later on today with my new ones if i have time

Cheers guys - R.B.5 - yep I think that is a little too red but suppose you make 'em as red as the amount of coats you put on.... Agree about the reversing light though.....

Dan - I thought about that too!!! But its the bulbs fault Its clear so will flash whatever the outside colour is, lens tinted orange will flash orange and tinted red as you say would flash red. My plan was to also change the bulb to an orange one and thus eliminate the prob - works for the OEM 106

Now I assume I can buy the bits in Halfords? Might give it a bash this w/e
