I've just heard that the cause of my air con not working, is a leaking condensor. I think that it has been damaged by a flying stone. I don't want to pay the £2-300 for a new one. So which of these options is the best bet?

1. get the old condensor repaired - can this be done?

2. source a used condensor

Any other suggestions?

Same thing happened to me about a month ago, though it wasn't stone damage, just corrosion where the pipes join the condenser matrix.

From what i gathered, talking to a few aircon specialists here in Essex, is that any attempt at repair is doomed - it cannot be done satisfactorily.
If you can find a secondhand one, you've done a better job than me - people don't seem to have them unless they're the damaged ones people have removed.
I bit the bullet and got a new one from Subaru (no-one makes pattern condensers apparently), and yes i'm £310 worse off.
But the aircon works better than ever now, and i know i've got new parts which will probably well outlast any repaired/secondhand item. Just my thoughts/experience.

can you not phone around the breakers yard and see how much they`ll flog you a whole unit for?

looking at an aircon upgrade meself so thats what I`ll be doing.

I have had a damaged condenser welded back before by an aircon specialist for a nominal sum, but haven't tested it out yet as I have replaced it earlier with a new one on the dealer's advice that it can't be repaired. The condenser is made of aluminum and requires inert gas welding or something.
