If the film were consistent, it'd be completely crap. There has to be some suspension of disbelief for it to work.

I always hated the fact that in the Superman movies where he was chasing the ACBM (as launched by Lex Luthor), he was able to catch up with the flying missile despite it having a 500-mile headstart. But as soon as he got within 30 yards of it, he had trouble reaching out to grab it, 'cos he couldn't go fast enough.

10 minutes later he was flying around the world so fast he was able to reverse the planet's rotation...

Not exactly consistent, but still fun!

well IMHO it is!

ok ok I know you have to suspend disbelief but the race at the start where the guy has his laptop report a potential 'manifold problem' only for it to 'somehow' shower the footwell with nuts and washers and smoke pouring off it, only to be picking up some guy and outrunning the cops flat out! yeah right!

plot was as a thick as an A4 sheet of paper, just thought it was very disappointing!

The bit that gets me is that they are driving cars that do the 1/4 mile in about 10 seconds and as such would be bouncing off the limiter in top gear in about 15-20 seconds. However, in the race scenes it takes them about a minute to get beyond 3rd gear and 100mph......go figure!

it's fun though, and surely that's a key part of a film's enjoyment ?

How fun would it be if the film was completely realistic ? Imagine 120mins about a group of people that spend more time writing about their cars online, than they do driving them, picking holes in life, cars and anything else that they don't agree with

Turn up the bass, switch off the lights, and enjoy the bests bits of F&F, and forget the semantics ?

Just my 20p worth

Much preferred Gone In 60 Seconds, loadsa gorgeous cars to drool over and of course Nicolas Cage phwoar

Of course it is entertainment, but it would be nice to have a couple of films out of every thousand with some effort involved in ensuring there is a good storyline

agreed, soundtrack is pumping, actually I think a much better film that's been around for years with a virtually identical plot is 'No Mans Land' with charlie sheen, undercover cop infiltrates a gang of porsche ringers - worth a watch.

Another good pumping soundtrack is that of Blade, but I still can't find the 8-10 minute version of the tune - Operation Blade........

Have you heard the Blade 2 OST ? Nothing to quite rival Operation Blade though!

"Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should" i allways found that odd why would he be double clutchin as its only used when going down the box not up, unless in the US you start in 6th and work ya way down

Question

I think you're muddling double-de-clutching with heel-n-toeing. He probably is too (not seen the film myself).

Double-de-clutching is used in a crash 'box whether changing up or down. But there's no real reason to use it in a modern car with synchros...

In the commentary on the DVD, the director says he wanted to get as close to the sensation of racing rather than looking at the cars going by. He said he wanted the audience to feel what it was like to be in a street race and the one comment he got from racers all the time was that a second felt like an eternity. that was his justification for doing a 2 1/2 minute slot for a supposed 10 second race.
If you want a real dodgy fact then the supposed "10 second" Supra can only manage 12 second standing quarters. What a let down
astraboy.

No Mans Land is excellent, I saw it on TV ages ago, and it took me ages to figure out what it was (having only seen about the middle hour). F&F also takes a few pointers from the plot of Point Break ... another excellent film (imo)

The thing that made me laff was the way they used the nitrous, on a button when the engine was already on the limmiter, where it will have the grand total of no effect. The whole point of nitrous is to give you big power all the way across the range, so you switch it of the throttle when it goes fully open. It's not the lack of plot that disappoints in films like this it is the lack of basic research into the subject, which then, when you actually know what they are supposed to be doing, spoils it.

F and the F has got a lot to answer for.

Glamorising Nitrous as if it gives you some sort of mental kick when it comes in - forgetting that it's supposed to be used on a turbo car to help with any lag etc etc...

And BTW, I double declutch going up from 2nd to 3rd, but that's cos me 3rd gear syncro is knackered!

Blimey,. I do not remember F&F being based on a true story, it's just eye candy

I found at a laugh to watch it with mates and a couple of beers.

The original tune is New Order - Confusion (Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix). This is the 10 min version. It was originally released in '93(i think) and can be found on the New Order album 'The Rest Of' released in '95.

The 'Operation Blade' and other tunes released were just rip offs of this original.

Edited cos i got my dates mixed up
