just rebuilt and refitted my 2.0 turbo engine.

what is the best way to run these engines in? it is modified, and runs cossie pistons if that makes any difference.

i was thinking 1000miles (oil change at 500 and 1000 miles). run at less than 3500rpm, no boosting, no sudden acceleration/deceleration etc
also, im going to keep off the motorway, but if not, will vary speed.

what do you think of the above? am i on the right track?

Do not use fully synthetic oil until properly bedded in, say 4k mls. Keep engine on fairly light load building load and rpm up over 4-5k mls progressively.

 

I doubt it will take as long as 5000 miles to run it, but it will of course loosen up a little more.

The run in period also depends on your piston clearance. The tighter the engine, the longer you will have to run it in.

i never use fully synthetic anyway, i use 10W 40 semi.

the piston clearance is 3 thou, and i could turn the engine easy by the clutch (bottom end - no belt on at that point), so seems fairly free already

Just been checking on my stroker kit, piston clearance is 0.03 mm. Cosworth Engineering recommend between 0.02 and 0.05 Will run it in using fully synthetic (Castrol RS 10W60), even if that takes longer. Not taking chances

The gap in the rings in the cylinder is 0.5mm.

Piston weight is 371g, con rod weight 577g.

New toys, yes, the Power FC and the wideband O2 I am currently looking in to will be my new toys for playing around ("fine tuning", officially )

I consider the JUN stroker kit more of a warranty than a toy. Cosworth pistons and forged chromoly 440 con rods (these babies are BIG and surface treated and beautiful ) A warranty with the additional benefit of increasing low down torque and slightly reduced engine internals weight, reducing inertia

I will at first retain the standard turbo because I like the way it delivers boost. Will try and hold more high up (over 5500 rpms) I am therefore having the blades modified and the exhaust housing slightly ported. With a polished intake and exhaust manifold and 264 cams, the injectors will be limiting my power, not the turbo I think. We'll see. I can still increase the base fuel pressure and use 90 duty. That shall, according to a friend's calculations, be good for 410 bhp. But I am thinking of reducing the stress on the fuel system by using bigger injectors (around the 700cc mark). But will have to run it in an map it first to see what happens

 

That should read 90% duty (some people on here seem to get upset because of a small letter or symbol missing )
