Scoobymania full decat exaust with twin dump dp
APS FMIC
APS cold air induction kit
APS SR40 turbo
APS 2 stage dump valve
Unichip engine managment with boost controller.

any comments ?

I'd also like to say a big thank you to Jamie at JW racing for sorting out all the APS kit and John Noble motorsport for doing the install & set up of the unichip.

Nice result. Similar to what I am hoping for with Turbo Dynamics Hybrid VF (similar to SR40?), APS FMIC, 1.4 bar and the usual trimmings.

How much boost and where in the rev range?

How lean is it?

What was the torque and the power at wheels?

What does a standard car get on the same dyno?

Any plots will be interesting.

the boost is 20psi @ 4000rpm droping to 17psi @ 7000rpm
I don't know how lean it is but the guy that set it up said it is totaly safe regarding det.
the torque is 293 @ 4510rpm
the power @ the wheels is 236 @ 7090 rpm
the "before" test on the car with ppp & exaust recorded 265bhp @ 5920rpm (170 bhp @ the wheels) and 253 torque @ 3860rpm.
I have both graphs in pdf format if you tell me how to I will post them up.

I find 230 atw to be quite something. IIRC Craig got something like that in his car didn't he?

I was really stoked on Monday when you called to tell me about those results, and thanks for putting them up here!

What makes it especially sweet is that the SR40 is relatively speaking an unknown entity at the moment and that is why we are trying to push it!

Now I'm really looking forward to getting my car set up with the SR40 et al on the 12th!!!

So how does the SR40 spool up then? (after all the debating etc) I am keen to know. The APS turbos do seem like good value when compared to the likes of HKS and PE etc.

Any headroom for further power increases?

edited to add: good power for relatively low boost at 7k.

The SR40 reaches 1 bar of boost at 4k rpm (about the same as an STI 7 and 1K above Mikes car) and has the capacity to flow to 450bhp.

and there were no injector changes.

turbo starts spooling up @ 3500 & is full on @ 4000.
there should be more power available as on the graph the power is still going up when the rev limiter cuts in.

The aps site lists about 2 or 3 variants of the SR40 with 450hp being the "biggest", although not all available?

I was wondering exactly what mike was using.

The SR40 Mike is using is the one with the 17.5 Turbine Housing which is the only type readily available now.

Thats pretty good figures, given I had 740cc injectors at Powerstation and got 330bhp. Had to replace the 440's as they maxed out ages ago....

Richard Wild got much less power running higher boost...

Well 356bhp/299lbft, but trout made me run again (as he didn't believe it!!!) and got 354bhp/298lbft.

Full boost at 4150rpm (mapped for 1.3bar, dropping to 1.25bar at 6000rpm)
1 bar of boost at 3900-4000rpm (Can't remember for sure it was a while ago!)

Why is the torque figure so low on these cars ?

340lb-ft should be available with less than 1.5 bar, especially on the big turbo's they're running

I guess there is no definate answer, but the torque figures I got were consistant with Power Engineering.

Torque figures seem higher on other rolling roads and BHP figures seem to be higher on the PE rollers!

I guess there the only answer is for us all to use engine dynos!!

I guess boost levels also make a difference!

I was only running 1.3 bar (not sure what sort of torque you'd expect) up to 6000rpm, and then it dropped to 1.25bar.

Bob Rawle advised not to run more boost and to be honest I'd rather take his opinion rather than risk a costly engine rebuild!!

 

Fair enough I run a bit more boost certainly but when I turned it down to 1.3bar for a recent track day it actually felt just as strong probably due to less heat/more efficient etc
Still would have thought about 320 lb-ft available at 1.3bar though ?

VERY few cars have seen 300ftlbs at PE, with only a handful going over.

IIRC, Bob has had the highest, at 323ftlbs, running 1.5bar through the mid' range.

I think some of the southern guys should arrange to go to Well Lane, and have a N v S shoot out (no I won't be running

It would be interesting to compare the cars like for like.

Perhaps there should be a rolling road ranking system Nominate someone to run round all the rolling roads one day and collect power runs for his car

I think a N v S shootout is a great idea Just wait a few months till John Banks and Alan G get sorted and of course Jock McTrout moves home McCulloch sounds a tad northern as well

 

N v S is a great idea. Andy if you dont want to be the guinea pig/test driver then I suppose I could help out. Could even pay for my own fuel I suppose. How many RRs? Glenrothes, Batley, Chesterfield, Cheltenham, are PE @ Uxbridge? and is there one in Norfolk used by Scoobs? Two hard days in the saddle at least. Sort of an alternative to the Cannon Ball/Lands end to John O Groats/Beaujolais or something.
Must be a magazine would get good milage (pun intended)out of this.

Nice to see us UK guys are still up there with the STis.

I don't understand this though, maybe it's something to do with the different rolling roads but, as Steve M correctly says I was running 20psi and got 331bhp at Well Lane, again on standard ECU, injectors, turbo (TD05) etc. but my PAW was 255bhp.

Mine is a MY96, do they have less transmission losses than the later cars or is it just down to different rollers?

I think the main point, is to get some of these cars together, same place, same time, and get some "comparative" figures.

Cars should also be compared with area under the graph, not just "peaks", that are BS, and don't give the whole picture.

I also think that the cars should be run in "Used day to day" set up !!!! Wacking up the boost, chucking in a load of NF, just for one run, is just kidding your selves.

If people do want to do a run ths way, then it should be treated as a seperate "take your chances" shootout !!!!

It's been suggested, that Well Lane could be organised for the Sat' of the Elvington weekend, with priority being given to those running at Elvington on the Sun' ???

Then we'd have some figures, and some real times to support them, even allowing for driver technique, terminal speed will give a good indication.
