Question

I'm looking for a bit of advice on this one, I was offered the following trade-in deal by a UK Subaru dealer and wondered whether it was a fair sounding deal, given the the future resale prices of the '01 version and the effect of the new '03 version on depreciation.

My Silver UK Impreza turbo saloon '98 S Reg, 30,000miles & extended warranty till Sept '03 + £3,250 = Swap for X Reg UK Deep Blue Mica Impreza Turbo saloon, 12,500miles. Both cars are standard & excellent condition.

...or would I be better saving my pennys for a tradein against an '01 or the new '03 version in a year or 2's time ??

Ian

Would you get an extended warranty on the new (X Reg Saloon)?

Depends on whether you want to wait 6 months, and if the "new" nose impresses you mate.
I love the classic shape over the bug-eye, all down personal preferences really.

You could take your pick of stock once the new shape comes out as there could be an in-flux of customers wanting to swap.

Sounds like a fair deal. Not a steal, but if you can afford it then it means you get to be the proud owner of an even nicer example of a classic shape than yours. If, like me, you prefer the classic shape then go for it. Such cars will be harder and harder to find. Of course, it won't hurt to ask the dealer if he could make the deal even more attractive, somehow. Good luck.

How much did you have to haggle to get that deal??
As some one else asked does it have a warranty?
If you didn't have to haggle go back and set your self a max like + £2,725 you are prepared to pay and go back to them with a figure of £2,250 and haggel upto your price.
Or try to get the warranty included in the '03 + £3,250.

Cheers for the feedback.

It seems a fair deal then. The x reg is under warranty until end of '03 with the option to extend this. The guy came down from about £4k to £3,250 as I'd originally bought my own car from them.

I think I'll sleep on it tonight and decide tomorrow.

Thumbs up

If you like the old shape, I say "go for it" too! Unless they tinker with the mechanicals, the '03 won't have the kick in the back of the '00, either
