Question

Got a problem with my 98 turbo at the moment, which i thing is overboost. Changed the MAP sensor and solenoid valve but hasn't cured the problem.

Someone suggested cleaning the pipes but didn't know how to go about it.

Anyone know what i need to do?

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

if the problem started for no apparent reason then it probably is your solenoid, look here for info on how to clean it.

Alternatively it could be your restrictors if it has happened for some time, look at Markus' post about overboost.

It's good to see that subaru isolated the problem before telling where to spend your money

Mo,

Having just changed the solenoid valve, i hope it doesn't need cleaning, but it did happen for no apparent reason.

Would i need to clean the pipe that i connected it to?

I gathered from the other post that you do this with brake cleaner - is this right?

Cheers, Mark.

Yes, you should use brake cleaner. I would clean the pipes aswell and although you've changed the solenoid there's nothing to say that it wasn't clogged whilst it sat there in the breakers.

Give it a OK and let us know how you got on.

Was the number on the MAP sensor the same as the one I mailed you?

Ok, will try that tonight.

The part number is slightly different on the MAP sensor to the one they sent me, but they are apparently all the same so should work fine.

Will let you know how i get on.

Cheers,

Mark.
