For Pete Croney or anyone in the know about lagging a DP
Hi All,
After my next MOT I'm thinking of having a SS DP fitted to my 93WRX - HOORRAHH!! Anyway, I am in fear of a couple of things as a result of the change (I have a SS Mid and a TSL BB by the way):
1- Will it run leaner / produce an increase in lean spots ?
2- Will the decat DP run hotter than the OEM pipe?
3- Do SS keep the heatshield on?
4- Is it worth lagging the DP to keep the heat contained?
5- Do SS fit lagging ?
That's it ! Hopefully the answers will be no, no, yes, no, yes. And my fears will be quelled and all I'll have left to do is save up and fit the b4gger !
Cheers

Hi Alex
1) No, the ECU will compensate as fuelling is determined by the air flow through the MAF sensor.
2)Yes as the standard pipe is lagged and shielded, but the the std one runs very hot inside, due to the cat.
3)Yes on the turbo
4)Some people ask for it, but I don't think it is necessary at all, unless you want to make it very quiet.
5)Yes if you ask when booking in.

Pete,
I'm coming to you in a couple of weeks to get my downpipe fitted.
A few of questions..
[1] How much extra does the lagging cost?
[2] Does it smell after it gets caked in crud?
[3] What type of lagging do you use?
[4] What are the pros/cons of lagging?
Thanks.
Ian.

Had mine lagged by SS, as i was paranoid i'd deafen the kids.
No downsides, period. Unless you really wanted a loud car but were too afraid to ask! No smell, no mess, no noise.

Thanks Pete and all. Sounds decent. I think I'll be tempted to go for the lagging based on current config being pretty loud and I don't really want it any louder or any more 'boomier'.

fubarred beyond all recognition, I'd say in terms of pros/cons, it depends what you want. If you want quiet fitting lagging is a pro, if you want more heat contained within the pipe to help prevent any surrounding components getting hotter than they have been tested for / designed for by Subaru (which doesn't necessarily mean it's going to cause a problem as Pete says), then it's a pro. Con has got to be the cost !
