On my 95 jap wrx, when accelerating in 2nd gear I can hear a whining noise but it is only in 2nd gear all the other gears are fine, I can only liken it to the noise you get when a thrust bearing is gone but a lot quieter, the noise is exactly the same whether under heavy or light driving.

Actually yes it does make me feel better

If more people have the same problem we can try to form a support group.

Yes sir, they all do that...

I have had a warranty replacement gearbox and a rebuild, and this problem has been present in all instances.

Regards,

Alex

I know that this is a really old post but mine (93 WRX) does exactly the same!
Glad to know i'm not the only one. Would still be nice to know what causes it though!
