I've just installed two amps, one to run 4 channels into the door and shelf and another to run two 12" subs. I've just cranked the volume up after a bit of running in and notice that the 4 channel amp COMPLETELY cuts out if I turn the volume up much about half on the head unit, naturally the bass is hammering hard still since its amp is still running.

Now my question to you audiophiles is this, is it actually possible for the sub amp to be drawing so much power from the system that the other amp just doesnt get any juice or is this more likely a lose power cable somewhere, the amps are run from a distribution block.

Its weird, I had the same kit (apart from a 2 channel instead of 4 channel amp) in my fiesta and it ran sweet, but this 4 channel amp is cutting, is there protection?

I'm really worried if its the power because it means that the 4 channel amp is running low on amps which will cause distortion and possible breakage on my kappas and dual mags. It also does it at lower volumes but only on tough passages of music.

First off I'd try a voltmeter to monitor your system. If it's the same amp that's distorting to the rears (your other thread) I'd start wondering if the amp is knackered.

Also, you could have a short somewhere on the outputs of the amp that may be causing problems? Bit of a long shot, admittedly.

Also what head unit?

Do you use pre-outs? If so, is the head unit a 4v pre-out jobby? And can the amp take it?

The other thing is that youu are pu;;ing to much power for the 4 channel amp try turning the gain down a little on the four channel ampif this doesnt help
You may have to consider running a power cap a bit extreme however if u like it load then this may be the only option

I had a similar problem when i installed 3 amps in the back of my car, when the volume was cranked up the amp supplying the bass cut out, my remedy was to use a 12v relay which was turned on by the remote lead, then use a higher power 12v feed through the relay to power the amps. No more amps turning off. I took my feed from a distribution block in the back of the car, the one that supplied the main power to the amps, so i suppose you could say it was straight off the battery. Hope this helps.
