Question

All I know is that :

11 digits means Jap import means major headache if needs repairing.
17 digits means European / UK import

Fortunately mine is 17 digits but insurer tells me it is a Euro not a UK spec. ?

What is the difference ?

How can I find out exactly what the VIN no. tells me about my car ?

It looks to me like all (STi 7) non JDM spec ones are 17 digits long and all (STi) JDM spec ones are 16 digits long.

Looking at the SIDC FAQ, section 2.1.1, it looks like the pre MY01 models all had 16 digit VINs. The applied model code seems to have grown an extra digit from the non JDM cars since MY01's.....

Which model were you interested in?

Cheers,

Matt
