Question

John

i think you read my earlier thread about the performance of the tek 2 changing (for the worse) after about a week of running.

it was suggested by mervyn at PE that it was probably the maf.

well, i have now replaced this and it does not seem to have made any difference, ie the early spool up seems to be still missing.

have you any ideas??

steven

I'm guessing here that you don't have Delta Dash, do you?
It would be really helpful here

I suggest you call Mervyn if he is already helping you and supplied you. Sorry don't have your other thread to hand and can't remember all the details - I get too many queries to remember them all.

Here are the links, sorry that there are four, but they represent different stages of progress.

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

Thread 4

Nom

Would like Delta Dash, but not enough money as i am building a big extension to the house, so every penny counts.

If anyone with delta dash around york or leeds would like to help, please do?

I am going to speak to Mervyn, when i get the opportunity, and see what he thinks.

I suppose i could go see my mate in london, i think he's living in twickenham now, so could call in at PE.

isn't babber from the leeds area?,sure he has delta dash

a few years ago a m8 of mine had a cosworth rally car mapped for super.he had rented it out for a rally that he could not do himself, the car never ran right.the person who had used the car had not taken enough fuel,as all he could get was normal he added some sort of booster.the car had two ecu's and would start, run, but would then cut out.plug harness into 2nd ecu and same thing.eventually traced to fuel, drained tank and all okay(the guy might have told us as the owner ended up taking it 300miles,leaving it with a rally specialist for a month).

due to the time scale with your car,the booster should be out the system but perhaps and this is a guess, coated the lambda sensor.a run ao delta dash would show this up.

The lambda sensor has no bearing on the problem you are experiencing as it does nothing from -0.1 bar upwards, sounds as though you are blaming the last change (ecu) when it could be something else. If you did an ecu reset then the ecu would be performing as if it had just been fitted ie the same as when the car was running well. so its most likely that something else is causing the reduction. You really need either a select monitor or a Deltadash looksee at what is happening. For example you could have a resonating knock sensor which is continually retarding ignition ... have you changed or altered anything else since the car "ran well" ? If so go back to the "last known good point" and see if that reverts it. has the extra boost you have been runnig caused the solenoid to become sticky, have you cleaned it out, have you inspected all the boost control pipework, is your dump valve leaking .... just examples of all the things that could also commonly cause the sort of problems you are having. Its well worth starting at a point and checking thro all the possibilities, maf was definately one but a Select monitor/Delta dash check would have ruled that out (and saved you the money maybe)

mail me off line if you want, its easier to discuss these things on the phone.

cheers

Bob

bob thanks for the info, i have not changed anything since it was running sweet, it was merely putting some octane booster in, which i have never done before. just cleaned out the boost solenoid and also took off all the intercooler and pipework including dump valve and cleaned them. replaced everything and waiting for results!!
will keep you informed. thanks for the invite to email and then telephone, but must do this during monday 2 friday as thats when i have more time, and thats at work!!

Understand, so revert it to where it was good ie same fuel etc ... be aware that it will take probably 3-4 tank fills to get all the booster out of the system.

cheers

Cleared out then,if you are running with NUL then this could degrade performance possibly more than if the ecu was std, the Tek 2 is really designed to run on 97 ron fuel only, if you do run it on NUL then it will drop back to the lower octane maps which are still left exactly as they were except that the car is trying to make a bit more boost which will pull in more knock retard, then the car will feel slower. It could well be that you had a "good" NUL when you first installed it which allowed it to stay on the modified maps but that doesn't really explain why booster triggered something, I suspect that could be a red herring.
