Question

I've just had these fitted by my Dealer (well 3 weeks ago, but I've been on holiday for those). I've noticed (and been told by others) that the exhaust sounds like it's rattling. Only sounds noticeable at low revs.

It's married to an STI backbox, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if anyone can suggest what might be loose.

Didn't want to phone TSL until I've had a look myself as it might sound like I'm complaining (I'm not, coz the Dealer should have fitted it right if it's not).

If this is a new de-cat pipe (so you had the oem catted one before), there should be a lot of extra noises, mainly mechanical ones. Well, not new, just noticeable now . Does it resonate at a particular frequency, or is it there all the time? The likely things it seems to me would be either the heatshield isn't on properly (would have a resonance), and the other is that there should now be a harder, more mechanical sound coming from the engine, and that's all.
Tricky to tell without hearing it

I believe I read that these noises are (as said above), not new, but can now be heard due to the extra flow offered by the TSL (or SS) downpipe....you get used to them, and you get to like them

If you're worried tho, give Paul a bell, I'm sure he'll reassure you...and probably sell you something else !!

Thanks for the replies guys.

The sound definetely sounds rattly, like somethings loose or vibrating too much. It's noticeable enough for friends and people in the office to ask if my exhaust is OK.

As for the Heatshield ....as it's sitting in my house, it'll not be that.

Dealer forgot, couldn't be @rsed or felt it wasn't needed, so didn't re-fit. Your guess is as good as mine

I've been in and around lots of de-catted Scoobies, so I know what they sound like. You notice it on starting and low revs/slow speeds. Once on full-chat it sounds great.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's coming more from near the centre of the car, maybe the joint between the centre and BB

I'm off to see the good Dr Banks this afternoon, so I'll get a 2nd opinion and phone Paul later in the afternoon.

Thanks,
Stefan

Nick Adams has a similar problem with his Scoobysport middle section mated to a Prodrive rear box, it rattles at low speed against the floor of the car,he has had 2 sections fitted and both do the same,Scoobysport said it was because its fitted with a Prodrive exhaust not an aftermarket one.

Thanks Zippy,

I've a feeling it's the connection between the TSL centre and STI backbox. The downpipe and centre connection looks rock solid, so don't think it's happening there.

If you rev the car (nothing harsh), it sounds like the whole backbox is vibrating. Maybe the extra air-flow/pressure is too much for the ickle STI ??

I've got the TSL BB on my shopping list, so hopefully it'll solve the problem.

So might just simply be the bolts coming off it's not a very good design of connector down there.
I'd get the heatshield re-fitted, unless you want to use the inter'cooler' as a method of grilling food with an interesting shape pattern on it.
