Just bought my colleagues ex-company MY99 Impreza Turbo.

It currently has the PPP fitted, and I was wondering what additional mods make sense.

Is it worth junking the PPP, and starting afresh, or are there reasonable gains to be had from some complimentary mods.

I've been looking at the Tek2 ECU as a starting point, but can't decide if this is money well spent considering that I already have the PPP ECU.

Any advice appreciated.

Andy.

Depends how far you want to go:
Upgrade disks
Blow off valve
Induction kit
EBC
Sway bars
Braided brake hoses
Bigger turbo/IC

Just have a look at some of the mod shops, like :

Andy,

I've experienced the PPP on my RB5 and although initially impressed, it wasn't anywhere near the performance I expected or is achievable.

I've recently de-catted (replacement DP, Centre and BB) and reverted back to my original MY99 ECU.

To be brutally honest it feels just as quick as the PPP.

If I were you, I'd consider selling the PPP (even better as a kit), de-catting, then going for a Tek2 or better Tek3 re-map.

Then I'd look at the supension and brakes.

The only real value of the PPP is the ECU itself, so you could keep that and simply de-cat to get a bit more performance. If you go for any ECU upgrade, then you'd need to change the ECU anyway.

Stefan

The Tek 2 is not worth selling your PPP for like it is not worth putting a Tek 1 on a MY99 car. You would need a Tek 3 to make any real progress ECU wise beyond where you are now.

Yeah, get rid of the cat and centre sections it will then pull from lower down the rev range and all the way to the red line. Only problem is the emissions and for some people the noise is excessive (personally i can live with it )

Stick with the PPP and decat the downpipe. Mine works a treat. If this is not enough (and admittedly after a week or so it won't be ) then look to the Tek3. And induction. And turbo. etc etc

While you are on the subject, with regard to the PPP, is the centre section decatted as part of the package?
If you also decat the downpipe how will this affect your emissions come MOT time?

Thanks for any advice in advance

Rasher..

MY99 ppp centre is de-catted but is still silenced. Best bet is get a scoobysport or tsl centre (you get better pops and bangs on overrun my rb5 wr runs with tsl dp, scoobysport centre and prodrive bb ).

When it comes to mot you just bolt the downpipe back on (or put the catted centre in and hope it's good enough!)

IMHO the PPP works best with a decat DP and some better filtering. Try this before you do anything else and you may be pleasantly supprised. What ever you do you'll probably change the DP anyway.

Your dealer should be 'cool' with this and probably won't notice come servicing time.
