Following an (pitiful) alchohol fuelled discussion after the football last night, we looked at 'bang per buck' but using bhp/ton (ie best simple measure of performance) and came up with the following.

Lowest score means least 'buck per bang', or pound per grin

MY99/00 - 167bhp/ton £21k - BHP/TON/£ = 125
MY01 - 155/ton £21500 - 138 = 138
Clio 172 - 154bhp/ton £16000 = 103
P1 - 214bhp/ton £31500 = 147
Ferrari 360 - 276bhp/ton £105000 = 380
Ferrari 550 - 283bhp/ton £150000 = 530
911 GT3 - 266bhp/ton £70000 = 263
911 turbo - 267bhp/ton £85000 = 318
Mclaren F1 - 522bhp/ton £500000 = 957
Caterham R500 - 535bhp/ton £30k - 56

Anything (on 4 wheels) beat the R500.

.... I'll get my coat

An R1 with stabilisers

I'm (fairly) sure the bike engined Caterham has almost the same power to weight ratio, but is cheaper,so probably it.

Cool

A pair of those motorised roller blades - cost 30 quid. 1 BHP, weigh about .002 tons. If my calculations are correct you get 500 BHP/ton and a score of 0.06.

Shumacher do a radio controlled car with about 980bhp/ton (2.1bhp!). Cost of £250 puts that at 3.92.

The R500 is 500bhp/tonne hence the name, and costs £34k not £30k AFAIK = £68 per bhp/tonne

Including the driver means it is now 435bhp/tonne, giving a score of 78.

The Caterham Fireblade is £17k (less if you build it yourself) and weighs about 470kg including driver, with 130bhp giving a score of around 62.
