Mudflaps
#1
Does anyone have an opinion on whether mudflaps or splashguards will stop my silver MY00 getting filthy every time I drive it? I'm not particularly keen on the splashguards (saw them on GGR's site) beacause I've got the black skirts that I don't particularly want to paint, and GGR charge a fortune as well. Do the mudflaps that dealers supply a) work? and b) look rubbish?

Yes, mudflaps work, no they don't look rubbish.
However, the only way to stop your car getting filthy in daily use at this time of year is to drive at milk float-like speeds and keep 30 feet away from all other moving vehicles.

Stumbled across some universal semi-rigid plastic mudflaps from a local auto shop (Braintree) and they fit an absolute treat. £10 a pair! They are just the right shape, plain with a slight grain finish. Also don't have large radii on the edges that look terrible. The rears needed no additional holes (the 2 claps lined up perfectly and used the existing rear spat fixing screw thro' a hole I made in the flap) and the fronts needed 3 extra holes (1 in the arch lip and 2 in the plastic sill trim). I fitted mine reasonably high so they wouldn't scrape all over the place and they do a good job of keeping the crud away from the sides. Didn't even have to remove the wheels! 45 minute job all round.

Carl,
I got the splash guards (Yes..from GGR)
they look great , and do a good job in protecting the sides of my impreza
No need to paint at all, go for the black
items or the silver ones if they match
your shade of silver.
IMHO the splash guards suit the impreza a lot more than simple rubber mud flaps.
Good Luck

Not very technical so don't know if mine are splash gaurds or mud gaurds. But my STI has them fitted and they make the car look like its just driven off SS9. They also reduce spray for other vehicles and keep most of the crap off the car.
They are official STI ones so don't know where you would get them (GGR?)

Are the splash guards from GGR the same as the 'aerodynamic splashguard kit' in the Subaru accessories brochure? The dealer sells them for 92.50 front and 102.50 rear inc VAT, which seems a bit steep to me (in which case GGR probably sell them for twice that).

Sorry for taking so long to answer,
got a front set from GGR back in May 99
but I was quoted a lower price recently
for both a front and rear set at 107.99
each.
The service at GGR is second to none
I ordered and got the required items
delivered and fitted a little over 3 days
and I live in Kuwait .(that is almost
half way around the world from GGR in
Leicester).
Best of luck
