Further to my post in the General Forums a fews days ago I now believe that the problem is the clutch rather than the gearbox. I have got a price of £335 + VAT to do the job, as opposed to the £717 inc from a main dealer. Is this reasonable?

He says he gets the bits from an importer who gets them straight from Japan and therefore cheaper. I told him it was a UK model and he said it wasn't a problem.

I don't have it in writing but I do have "contemporaneous notes"!!

That is indeed a very good quote.

Try Mike Rivett he fitted my clutch for £150 and can do a skimmed flywheel for £40 on an exchange basis. I provided my own clutch but he can source them also.

Also I would assume for the price quoted it doesn't include a pressure plate - I believe that a cure for clutch judder was to upgrade the UK pressure plate to an STI/P1 spec. If it does include the pressure plate then its a bloody good quote!

Thanks for the link. It's booked into a clutch specialist in Purley Croydon tomorrow, I'll let you know how I get on.

The new clutch is now fitted and all is fine again. Apparently the part of the pressure plate which links to the slave cylinder was breaking away which meant the plates were not separating properly, hence the difficulty in changing gear. All is fine now.

Price as quoted earlier plus £6.70 for paying with a credit card.

I have driven a few miles on it since and it feels great! It's good to have a healthy car back.

I've no hesitation in recommending them.
