Default Fozzy SG 2007 4EAT output bearing excessive play?

Hi all. I'd like an opinion on this issue with my 2007 4EAT fozzy xt. Symptoms are;

A) going back since we bought it a few years and around 5k miles ago. A shuddering /vibration on steady throttle, town driving speed, and 1700 - 2500rpm ish.
B) new symptom; occasionally a violent vibration and thonking noise on high torque, low speed, take off like at junctions or roundabouts

I suspect T/M main output bearing as there is play and clonking, but not sure if is excessive? Tm on the left, I was trying for up-down motion.

UJ seems OK, the play here is on the tm side.
Cheers!

For UK 2.5 XT Foresters ( MY5> ) they are fitted with a VTD version autobox.
The rear output shaft, with transfer clutch, is mounted on two ball bearings as highlighted below

The attached US Technical booklet for the phase II version maybe of some use as the VTD version was introduced there for MY2006

Cheers Don as always!

I saw a video of a guy who managed to drop the rear transfer box tm still on the car, but its still a pretty big job. I checked our leggy 3.0r and the play was similar, so I maybe swinging back to my original fear that it's the torque converter, as the vibration seems to happen when there's high slip between the engine and the drive train, so that'd be a tm out job anyway.... eyeroll.
