Default Please Help!! Brake Upgrade

Hello everyone.

I have Blob WRX STI 2004 (For ref I have 17” Rota Flights” Barely and room for the brakes.

Getting straight to the point, Few questions that hopefully a few of you can clear up. Looking to upgrade my brakes for a few track days.

1. Are the standard STI Brembo callipers big enough to house the so called BIG Brake upgrade pads and discs?

2. What are the current best Discs and pads I can go for without buying a Big brake kit with the callipers etc.

3. What size are my discs? And could I go for a bigger size discs with the STI Callipers?

Please any experience an expertise would go a long way.

Long story short done a Nurburg trip and have the itch to start a Hybrid Track/Road car.

You need 326mm discs, best combo- PFC discs with pagid rs14 or newer rst3 pads- 1k+ pounds
no You can not go bigger, discs will hit calipers, doubt even 330mm will fit
in theory You can fit 355mm bbk under 17"s but just few of them will take it, custom team dynamics pro 1.2 is one of them
other options apracing 6pots 330mm bbk 2-4k depends from calipers etc ,best are apracing cp5555 ,cp5570- no dust seals You need to clean them sometimes.
best overall with steel discs are alcons rc6 calipers, best design-no dust seals but dust dissapears ,biggest pads and super light monoblock calipers
mine old set

now Im on 362mm ap's under 18" and 345mm fuji with high carbon discs on rear( PFC discs for track are 200-300 quid more expensive than road ver.)

Thanks for the reply’s Lads.

Please see pictures below on what I’m currently running, could anyone tell me the size I have and if I could get a decent upgrade with these sizes?

As you can see they just about fit.

like above 326 discs on the front
and discs looks decent yet ,plenty of them left, i almost make plain with no grooves my old AP racing rotors and still were strong
buy pagid rst3 pads for 250 quid and all should be good
have a look on pistons and rubber for leaks and free movement,
put braided brakes pipes and change brake fluid for motul 700 or endless RF-650
speak with alyn asperformance he will sort You out even with custom brakes
decent upgrade will cost You 2000 for 330mm bbk ,not sure worth it for almost same size rotors and 2 more pistons but bigger pads than maybe Yes

Main thing is to get fluid and pads that can take the heat. Alyn at AS performance will advise you well without trying to sell you stuff you don't need.
I'd try that and if you find your racetrack and driving style is causing the brakes to overheat you can always manage the heat with cool down laps and then think about further upgrades if needed.

Edit: I'm running DBA discs (326mm front) with performance friction z rated pads, very happy with both, works well for street and track but if you go really hard it's possible to overheat them. A more track focused pad would take more heat but I'm lazy and don't want to change pads before a track day.
