Hi,

Apparently I need a new flywheel the one currently on the car is dual mass and the new part from Roger Clark Motoring is £750 + VAT!

I am told the OEM is 12345AA002

RCM have said it is likely there is a single mass conversion available but it would be for a 'compatible' Impreza.

Any ideas?

I'd suggest shopping around mate. Try your local clutch places. Dual Mass is normally more expensive for the equivalent normal flywheel. That price from RCM seems high if I'm honest.

With it being a normal road car I expected the price to be more in line with the German, Jap and American cars that use a dual mass flywheel.

 

I've spent about 8 online hours contacting pretty much everyone and RCM are the only option for my car that is under the £1700 shown above.
LUK, Valeo, Blueprint and Sachs et al have all discontinued production and there are zero options on Ebay.
The possible 'cheaper' option is a single mass conversion but other than xtreme performance ( expensive, out of stock and non-UK supplier ) I cant find a kit confirmed for my particular car and I'm struggling regarding cross compatibility info.

 

So after my comment from what Don said I looked too. There seems to be next to no stock at all. Might be worth jumping on Legacy UK forums and see what those guys suggest.

 

yes I already have a thread running on there.. only option seems to be single mass conversion but getting stock on a kit is also challenging

cheers for the info. Unfortunately I need the part this week as the car is on a workshop ramp with the gearbox already off. Plus I would guess that import duty would push the price up to at least £900?

 

Hello I just wondered how your issue was concluded. Our 2.0R is immobile with a broken clutch, but will also require a DMF. Only genuine Subaru part available at

£2408!!

We may have to abandon an otherwise perfect car........

 

I ended up biting the bullet and bought a dmf from Roger Clark Motorsport.. it cost around £1000 at the time.
Using a conversion kit would've been way cheaper but I didn't have time to wait for an import.

Check the old thread I started on the Legacy UK forum as the advice regarding supplier for a single mass conversion kit was on there.
tbh I forget the exact details as I like you had my car on a garage ramp and had to get something that was available that week.
I know partsouq sell these parts at a significantly lower price too, although you have to import from the middle east with them.Sorry I cant be of more use but good luck with getting the car going again.
Parts availability for 2.0R is a real headache and it's taken up huge amounts of time for me on more than one occasion.

I cannot agree too vociferously with this statement : for a 138 bhp car it is crazy. I wonder if it would have been better to have a 2.5 or turbo as parts are so readily available for them. It is unlikely I will get this ar back on the road for less than one thousand pounds so will have to purchase another car; unfortunately that will probably be an old BMW.....

 

Booked into Ashburton Subaru dealer to supply and fit Subaru solid flywheel conversion.

£1238 inc VAT for everything

Parts not available until mid April though....

That will be 12 weeks off the road.

 

Annoying but sounds like a good option. That's significantly cheaper than I paid a few years ago.
