A mate of mine has a MY94 uk turbo which has done approx 100,000 miles, a few weeks ago he felt the car was missing a bit whch he put down to damp during all the crap weather we've had. Last week things got a bit worse, as the revs increse the turbo comes in as normal but stops almost straight away and the car continues to rev through the range as normal but off boost. When he takes his foot off the gas the turbo will again start up at about 3000 rpm. He's also hearing a rattle of sorts from around the turbo as the car decelerates.

He's sent the turbo away this week to get checked out but has been told that it's fine so he's wandering what the problem is.

Hope there's a few techies out there that may point him in the right direction.

Thanks Pete.

Has the check engine light come on?

Probably worth flash testing the ECU for error codes as it may be in "limp home" mode.

Pete,

What exactly do you mean by "flash testing the ecu for error codes" and how do you do it?
