Question

Since my Dealers been a right pain in the @rse over replacing my O2 sensor, I asked if the would fit a de-cat downpipe instead of fixing the OEM one.

They've advised me not too since Prodrive have told them that on MY98/99/00 models you will get detonation and pinking casuing problems on #4 cyclinder

Is this correct?

Could one of the mods move this to Drivetrain? Might get a better response there.

Scaremongering...and more polite than saying "No". Quite a few people have decatted the d/p....

Of course, if you do it and your cars goes bang...then they were right!

YHM. I expect they are covering the bases with regard to warranty. Would be interesting to see the bulletin.

Scoobysport in particular have made very extensive tests of the safety of downpipes.

Low back pressure sounds an odd cause for detonation. Certainly I end up retarding the ignition a degree or two for cars without decats compared to those that have a decat pipe, so that only sounds good?

Funny that Nobles only 6-9 months ago when I had my/your ( ) PPP fitted said that a downpipe with PPP was wonderful

Talking

Cheers guys. I did suspect they were talking pi$h.

They could easily have said that changing my wiper blades might cause a big end failure too. Of course, if I changed them and the engine blew-up ........
