Ok, been told if I remove the resonator in the wing I can get cooler air coming in (from the wing) and it reduces intake resistance. My MY99 is on the standard intake system but possibly looking at a K&N replacement element too....

Are there any other pros to removing the resonator? What about cons? (water ingress etc) and is it worth doing with the K&N (running normal subaru element at the moment)

Thanks
Neil.

Cool

Pros -
Nice whoosing noise
Faster spoolup
Up to 5bhp increase (think this was tested by an Australian tuning co.

Cons -
Possible water ingress onto MAF
Possible running lean issues

At least one has experienced an amazingly lean condition after driving in the wet without resonator due to water contamination of the MAF. If water gets through the filter it *will* stuff up MAF readings and *will* cause problems.

Also worth noting JB's recent comments on lean mixture with resonator off, although I've never experienced this.

Can't be sure that car was lean because of the resonator. The fuel pressure is being checked and he returns on Friday. Will post any more of relevance after that.

Cool - mine will be checked after doing it anyway so should be ok to go ahead - if it shows up anything nasty, will go back on and I'll post info!

If you do want to remove the resonator, i have a Chiptorque cold air feed pipe which goes into the std airbox, as well as a brand new K+N element. Mail me for details at bitob@hotmail.com

Cheers
