Default Dashcam and cigarette port.

Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong section and it's kind of a silly question that's got me stumped. I bought a reputable dashcam that gets power from the cigarette lighter port. Now the lighter works fine but the charging lead on the dashcam (or anything else for that matter) doesn't work. Iv tried the dashcam in my girlfriends car so it's a definite go. So, iv tried blasting out dirt and grime, twisting the charger slowly for a connection, checking the fuse (but not the fuse on the socket if it has one at the back) .... And iv also tried slightly bending out the prongs inside. ... now what's my best approach as iv encountered many dangerous drivers in recent times and feel my dashcam is a good thing. Should i replace the lighter socket (if so is it a universal part) shall i try a new charging lead (unlikely), or can i hitch it someplace else safely that's not permanent live? I read that some older sockets have a smaller positive post inside, think maybe that's the problem? I wouldn't concider an 03 plate being "old" .... advice please guys.

Isn't there a fuse in the wiring just behind the *** lighter socket? I seem to remember there is...........Or did I dream it?

If the lighter works, it's not the fuse(s).
If the device works in g/f's car it's not the charger.

Ergo, it must be the lighter socket, so yes, I'd remove it and fit a new decent one.

Or fit a second, linked to it under the centre console, that's what I did on my classic for my phone etc.

Sorry you're correct. This is what comes when you try and work and only skim read posts. My bad.
