Default Turbo Bearing failure syptoms ?

Right guys, had to replace My gearbox, all done, now, when i hit around 1 bar of boost i get like a screeching noise which im guessing is the turbo as it only happens when 1 bar plus is hit, was fine before the 3 mths lay up the car had.

now, never hearing bearing failure before or any other noises what would bearing failure sound like and if they had fialed, would the turbo go pop quickly or still work as i hit all boost levels fine, just get this weird screech noise at 1 bar plus

trawled youtube but no similair noises on any videos

maybe its my replaceemnt box

If i remove airbox and check for play in the turbine shaft i guess ?

cheers

Has the up pipe been off at any point, could be a screeching gasket on boost, may be worth nipping up any bolts to see if it makes a difference

are you running a front mount or are you still running top mount? i had the same on mine, i had the car off the road for a few months, put it back on road and it sounded like the turbo had died, turned out it was one of the couplers on the front mount that was leaking and it hadn't even been touched.

Havent touched the Up pipe and still running TMIC, cant find any leaks, isnt as bad in lower gears at 1 bar but in 4th and 5th quite noticable.

weird as perfromance hasnt been hampered at all.

will keep investigating , cheers guys

I have the same noise, over 1 bar. I can't find any leaks either. What turbo are you running? I have VF35

How are you testing for boost leaks?

Just guessing really as pressure holding. Is there a recommended way of checking for leaks? Is it a smoke test or something?

I find guesswork somewhat unreliable.
Get your compressor out and make a bung for the 2" turbo outlet, pressurise the system tj working pressure. You will soon know if you have any leaks

thats the problem, i dont own a compressor ha :-)

will try and feel for bearing play in the turbine on the Air intake side ,mine doesnt sound like a boost leak and my boost gauge is as it was before , no drop in pressure anywhere

need to turn the stereo up i think

this is what i did with mine, the bung cost no more £10.00 to make, and some soapy water.
