Hello all, my brothers Impreza 2.0 Gl has all of a sudden started slipping.
Car was perfect and hasn't been drove as its been of the road. Now the clutch has started slipping very bad in all gears???
Any ideas? I cant see it being the clutch it was fine now after leaving it off road for a week its started slipping?

 

Possible oil contamination? I'm not sure but I think the rear crank seal and a blanking plate can both leak and either may have allowed this, but it does seem unlikely.

Is the bite point quite high? If not you might be able to burn it off by slipping it a bit when you pull away. Best not doing it under load or lots of heat is generated quite quickly.

 

Biting point is nice and low, its very strange it was fine like I said just now its been of the road for a week its started doing this

Didn't see it was only off the road for a week - not very long! Does seem odd. Have you looked at the slave cylinder to check it's moving nicely vs the clutch peddle and with the clutch peddle up it comes free of the lever that it pushes?

My car (not sure if non-turbo is the same) had a return spring on the clutch lever on the gearbox, however when it rusted through and broke I noticed no difference in clutch behaviour so didn't bother to replace it, but its possible that it does have an effect. Maybe on ensure pedal comes up fully to allow fluid from reservoir into system. Does your car have one?

 

The car is cable clutch, tried adjusting etc but still no luck 😞

 

Anyone got any ideas

 

High/low ratio lever been moved and sat in a neutral position ??

Sorry i don't understand what you mean

 

Is it a saloon or wagon ? - the wagons have a low ratio range function and the lever (by the handbrake lever) can sometimes not full engage down thus causing slippage.

If you have a saloon the you won't have a low ratio lever.

You could try what tjmatt said and try a "racing start" - although that's more of a ploy to get rid of clutch judder.

If that don't sort it then it will be a new clutch job after the rear crank seal and blanking plate have been checked for leakage (like tjmatt said).
