Default Replacing Sport R Wagon

A bit of history first.

1998 to 2001 New 2ltr Sport Non Turbo Wagon nice car.

September 2001 to March 2006 Local dealers demonstrator, WRX Blobeye Wagon, Wonderful!

March 2006 to Now, New 2006 Sport R Wagon non Turbo, It is much cheaper to run than the Turbo, it ends there!

Today at the the local dealer I drove a 2012 STI saloon.

19k miles, very fast, very direct steering and on the harder side of comfy.

At 70 mph you cannot hear the engine as at about 28mph per thousand revs it is only turning over at say 2,500 rpm but the exhaust noise is there.

It also lets you know when the road surface changes.

First thoughts is that on a 200 mile journey it could get a bit tiring.

Therefore has anyone driven the last of the WRX from around 2010 and are they nearer the older WRX which is a bit less fast and a bit less of a hard ride and quieter, OK it's a trade off but is the base WRX easier to live with than the STI.

Comments are welcome especially from someone who has lived with a standard late WRX and a newer STI.
