Default Best 5 speed gearbox???

Hi all

I have a classic uk turbo wagon running 340ish and I want to upgrade the gearbox from the standard notouiusly weak type UK box but I don't fancy going to a 6 speed or PPG. I was just wondering what you guys think the best 5 speed gearbox is?

Maybe an STI type ra box and matching rear diff?

Thanks

Ra box is brilliant for sprinting not a everyday box

I believe the newage ty754 boxes are supposed to be the strongest, ideally the hawkeye and blobeye ones. However if you answer davids question he's the man to tell you.

The best compromise would be a P1 754 type box, as it is stronger and also has a .825 fifth gear, so is not as low geared as many RA boxes.
You would need the matching 4.4:1 rear diff to go with it, if yours is a different ratio.
I have been the gearbox man for API for the last 11years,and am now the new owner, so if you like to give me a call on 01926 614333, I would be happy to have a chat and sort something out for you.
Cheers,

Rob.

My RA is an everyday car and I love the short ratio for everyday driving

Not broken yet but just am anticipating that it may give up the ghost soon as I believe I am on the limits of the uk box in terms of power
