Default Legal upgrade for Classic headlights

As many of us know the Classic headlights are poor to say the least.

Having read Alcazar's tech post of retro fitting projectors is this the only legal way? As I've seen many options on various other forums about legality of upgrading bulbs/headlights etc.

Car is a 1998 classic so will be upgrading to the crystal headlights but I understand these still aren't the greatest.

Responded now by PM.

WHATEVER you do, with H4 bulbs, AVOID HID AFTERMARKET KITS!

I went with the nightbreaker unlimiteds. They are a lot better than standard bulbs.

Another vote for Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited, Amazon is usually cheapest reliable place to get them. Paid £14 a pair last time I bought them.

Halfords Rally bulbs in mine and they make you able to see in the dark

As said avoid HID's.

Just gone crystal on my v3 and they are quite good AFTER being aligned correctly.

TBH, they are a tiny % better than the older types.

Agreed, although they do benefit from proper alignment. I wonder how many people have problems due to this.

My v3 hasn't been on the road for a few years but I ran 100/55 bulbs in the crystal type headlights.
I also used to run these in my GTB, along with 100 w in the main beam projectors, 400 watts on main beam. The older subaru reflectors are so poor the 100 watt bulbs looked barely brighter than a 55 in a decent headlight.

100% on both the above.

Had a car behind me yesterday blinding me with one headlight, the other was focused about ten feet in front of him.

How does he have an MoT?

Except that MoT no longer checks much except beam pattern.
