So my misses was driving along last night and as was pulled off from the roundabout the car made a massive scrapping/crunching noise and then it wouldn't move we could roll it so far but then it would get stuck and you would have to rock it back and forth until it made a clunk noise. The car does go into all the gears but it gets a little bit stiff and in gear it will drive forward a little bit but then stop and make that clunk noise again. Has anyone got any ideas what the problem is?

It is a GC8 Wrx 1995 if that helps

 

I am afraid yor gearbox decided to strip few teeth......when it happened to me i first thought that exhaust fall of the hangers and was scrapping on the floor:/

 

Yeah that is exactly what I thought had happend how did you go about getting yours repaired was it expensive? Can anyone recomend any good garages around hampshire that would be able to fix this for me? Thanks

 

I changed for 6 speed conversion.....fit and forget
Its much cheaper to find 2nd hande unit or strech for 6 speed.
