Noise under heavy braking
I've recently fitted Brembo front calipers and brand new discs and pads all round. It's a 2003 WRX, with 2 pot rears. I also fitted a full 3" exhaust at the same time. Now when I brake quite hard I get a rotational clonking sound. I've had all four wheels off the ground and there is nothing catching, so I got the other half to press the brake when I rotate the wheels, but still nothing. I'm think the exhaust is hitting the propshaft as its moving when braking hard, does this sound possible? Should it have that much movement? There is about 10-15mm clearance when at a standstill. Could it be engine/gearbox mounts gone?
Its going to be difficult to prove I reckon. I may put some big cable ties to pull it right away from there just to test it, then I know for sore sure. I don't know how I can fix it though, maybe longer rear hangers? Thinking about it, the exhaust tailpipe is slightly off centre too.
They are grooved, but its not that, its a definite clonking noise. Driving home tonight, it not doing it if I brake progressively hard, if that makes sense, only if brake sharply.
