Hi all,

had the wagon about 8 months and want a bit more power, done a bit of work (Pro-R Air filter, Scorpion back box, Center pipe decat, silicone Y-Pipe) remapped myself with a tactrix cable so would plan to do the same going forward. (if anyone wishes to share any maps feel free. I will gladly do the same)

BUT what else do I need to consider to go along with a turbo upgrade? not silly power, aiming for 300-320bhp so gearbox and clutch 'should' be able to take it ok. (would be a VF30, VF34, VF43 etc.)
As far as I can tell the injectors are same as the STi so no point doing anything with them?

Would I need to consider a fuel pump upgrade or 3 port boost solenoid to help control it?

I have read the scaremongering of people saying pistons will melt etc. on the 2.5 engine but I am happy to take the risk. Seems to be the later models after the hawkeye suffer more with this.

Hi Fuzz,

The standard pistons are fragile however they fail on standard and sensibly mapped cars alike. You aren't really risking failure more by upping the power. The risk is still there though.

The sti vf43, sti tmic and a fuel pump and Decat or sportcat will see you 330-350bhp and 380-400lb. The standard wrx hawk box can take this if driven as a road car, it it's being launched or regular track/sprints then it's worth considering lower power or a 6spd.

Thanks for the quick reply.. This is my issue. Am I better off spending money on other upgrades before looking at the turbo to get more from the TD04?
So say fuel pump and sports cat? (does the turbo up pipe have a cat in it on the Hawkeye or worth changing?)

No there is not a cat in the uppipe on a hawk wrx.

You would see with fuel pump and sportscat around 280bhp and 330lb torque once mapped.

I think I will be on the hunt for a prodrive sports cat then. I like to keep things OEM where possible and not interested in going to a 3 inch bore exhaust as want to keep scorpion backbox.

I have just been told something odd.. If I get a Prodrive sports cat I will need to put the original center pipe back in place?
I find this a bit odd as I have never read that before anywhere.. Any truth in this anyone?
