Hi im just wondering if anyone knows how to reduce emissions.
My Subaru has a 227kgm and its a 2litre sohc non turbo 125ish-bhp
My friend has 180kgm and its a 2.7litre Porsche boxster 265+bhp

That's 50kgm more which puts me in the next tax class (£300 a year) bit ridiculous considering the power and litre.
So im wondering if fitting a catch tank and removing the pcv system would lower my emissions, my intake is oily from the pcv (works correctly btw) and surely burning off oil fumes and hydro carbons + what ever else is there is raising my emmisions.

That's my thought and im interested in any other options to reduce my emmisions.

 

You won't be able to reduce your tax . . . It's done on manufacture statistics only

 

How would you prove to the DVLA your lowered emissions?

Maybe go LPG? LPG is an official tax class and can be changed by providing documentation I think, but as for g/km CO2, I don't know how they accept the figures....if at all? And what's to say us public didn't lean the mixtures out to get lower figures, then crank them back up again 5 minutes later?

I think everyone would be doing this if it was that easy?

Well don't I look like an idiot lol I cant find the info I was reading. But on logbooks it says changes to current vehicle including tax band/gkm, surely If it wasn't changeable it wouldn't be on the log book. If the emissions could be lowered a lot without causing pollution surely It would be worth a phonecall to dvla or whoever would handle this sort of stuff to get the band lowered.

Cars get tested on emissions when it has an mot, and it would be as easy as the public fitting a decat exhaust after an mot lol.

 

You must be on the same tax class as everyone else but you should be failing mot on nearly twice the emissions.
If you went and got your tax class changed it would be like £500+ a year with that rating.

Only tax class can be changed looking at my log book, not g/km CO2 also.

 

The MOT emissions do not test the CO2/km output, just that the gasses that come out of the exhaust aren't full of carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides and unburnt fuel (lambda).

 

Your right they do not test c02 gkm and ive been looking up about getting a c02 test, cant find anyone who does it. Weird that isn't it.

Had a look at my emmisions test and my results are lower than the ones on my log book? c0 and hc mainly.

Im just thinking surely for every litre of fuel burned it will create so much c02 and then so much C0 and so on.....Could I not work out what my c02 is from the mot emissions results.
We need a scientist lol

 

As above, taxation class is fixed from date of introduction of the car, cannot be changed.

 

Not to sound rude in anyway, but what's the bit on the logbook for then?

 

LPG conversion, or maybe engine swap maybe?

 

Lol at this why buy the car if your trying to save money on the tax don't get it
