If its a true Escort RS Turbo and is in very good/excellent condition, its worth more then your scoob. But it could just be a converted one

If you think an old WRX with 145K on the clock will go up in value then you are very much deluded my friend.
As above, if it's a proper, non abused decent condition original RS turbo then it's worth more than your car.
However, examples of RS turbos in the above condition are few and far between and not driven by lads willing to shout swap deals out the window at the lights.

If you hold onto anycar it will one day go up in value. But then it gets to a point where it costs more to keep it on the road each yr etc. Also I like the rs turbos had a few. Bought myself a tidyish one couple yrs ago BUT they are true moneypits mate. Anything and everything go wrong. The CVH engines werent that great back in the day let alone now when all the world and his dog has ragged the hell out of them. There are nice examples out there but are mega money 5 or 6k you got to bear in mind even the latest ones (I think 8 of them were registered on J plate ) will be 20+ yrs old. And at the end of the day as lovely as they are it is still a mk4 escort. But its your call lol

Back in the mid 90s people were saying the same of Mk1 and 2 Escorts. Look at the value of them now, even the poverty spec models!! Mk1 and 2 Fiestas are also now heading up in value too. Other older cars that were 10 a penny in the day are also going up in value!
I think the older Impreza will do the same in a few years!

Only certain Subaru Models will retain value, most wont (note 22B will), as the owners wont want to spend 2-3k keeping on top of a car worth 2k (rust etc) so sorry to say, i am with Matty here, and if the escort is a mk1 RS turbo in good all round condition its worth a minimum of 4k on a bad day (normally A-C reg cars).

Surely the easiest way to settle this is by calling the guy and ask for details of his car otherwise this thread could be a complete waste of time if it's a 1.3 with a body kit? ?

Just my opinion

That sounds like a plan! Maybe also get the reg number and do some checks on the net. It might of just been an XR3i he was driving, made to look like an RS. You know, like people do with Impreza sports etc.
I recently'ish got rid of an Mk4 Escort RS convertible. Excellent condition just had weird brakes That went for £950. But the torque steer on it was amazing and great fun to try and keep in a straight line lol

Like I said, even the poverty spec models in the Escort range are worth good money nowadays, hell even rusty ones command silly money . I remember people saying (in the early to mid 90's) that they'd never be worth anything and there were a LOT more Escorts than Subarus about then
Even the non performance MK3 Escort is starting to rise in value!!

I still think they will go up in value over the next 10 years or so, some more than others though Especially after the Chavs smash a few more up

I used to run a Mk2 XR2 with an RS Turbo engine in, that torque steered like a biatch too those were the days, wrestling the steering wheel after a 'spirited' launch at the TLGP

I think your right BLU and demand will be high with short supply. If you think about it this site is/was one of the biggest in it's hay day which translates to a lot of ex owners who will have fond memories. As you say there were a damed site more Fords about than there have ever been Subarus, so if some **** box Ford Escort 1.1 pop in mint condition is worth £3/4k now just for the shell then a decent condition full functional Type R /RA is going to be worth a fair few quid in 15/20yrs.

Well shouting out of the window was the short way of saying it . I 1st meet him at the Bp. It looked like a nice car but at the end of the day it's a ford. And when I put my power down if it was real y did he not keep up with me . P.s he was no kid. He was like me in his 40 or older . Who no's may be there was something wrong with his car. I never looked under it . And even stranded he shod of be behind me . It was prob a rep. I got his number . May give him a ring . Just for the fun of it . & I think u r wrong about them not going up in £ .
My car is mint not a mark on it . And about 75000 miles on the clocks . U may be right . But this is my 1st Subaru & I love it . It's a true classic and being a jap import I am having to much fun in it at mo . So I think I keep it . When I get board I turn it into a track car . Any way thank for all u help everyone . Like I say I may ring him just to see wot it is under it . If it was a mk2 / mk3 rs 2000 then it's a no brainer . We see . I let u no what it is when I ring him .
