Default Service Kit

It's almost time for a service on my Subaru. I've seen on scoobyworld they have a major and minor service kits. Both seem quite expensive for what you get.

I can get up to 35% off eurocarparts so most likely going to get the stuff from there, but what would you suggest is required for a service? Just oil and filter or go for the whole lot including sparks, fuel filter etc?

I got fuel & oil filter millers oil and ngk iridium plugs for about £90 used import car parts for the oil and filters and eBay for the plugs as was half price and only about £26 instead of the £50 odd. For the extra few quid it's worth doing the fuel filter

Depends on your service history really mate, I don't change spark plugs every year as I don't do lots of miles. If your spark plugs have not been changed for a while I would replace them. If you have standard air filter replace that but if you have performance panel filter just clean it. Same with fuel filter if its not been replaced for a while replace it and replace your pollen filter as a lot of service kits don't supply them so people tend to forget about it. Oil and filter I change every 6 months though

Well this is the first year I've owned the car so I'm thinking of changing everything to just be sure its all good, other than the panel filter which i'll clean. I'll add the pollen to my list! Thanks

If you doing the plugs for the first time i found it easier with a 3/8" socket set rather than 1/2". Access to the plugs is a right PITA especially if the previous owner tightened the last set in with a scaffold pole - they don't need to be mega tight. Some people put a bit of copper grease on the threads to stop them seizing up but i have my concerns over this. If you have them out regular there should be no need. Genuine subaru oil filters (especially the black ones) are highly regarded over pattern copies.

unless you have hayfever throw your pollen filter in the bin and dont bother with a new one

You should also change front/rear diff and gearbox oil if it's a major service.

They dont just collect pollen, they collect road dust, crap and leaves etc so leaving it out isnt a good idea, even more so for the sake of at most a tenner.

You know the gear box and diff oil I didnt think it deteriorated? I thought as long as it was not contaminated it was ok? Of course my man changes it as and when but that was my understanding? Anyone ever heard of that too? Or just me lol
